Dietary Guidelines for Americans
The Dietary Guidelines for Americans are the United States government’s science-based advice on what to eat and drink to promote health, reduce risk of chronic disease, and meet nutrient needs. All the government food programs must follow the guidance in the Dietary Guidelines.
MyPlate
MyPlate is the official symbol of the five food groups that the United States Food and Nutrition Services recommends for a good, balanced diet. MyPlate is a visual reminder to make healthy choices from across the food groups. The website, MyPlate.gov, offers tips and resources that support healthy dietary patterns.
Food Safety
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has descriptive tips for keeping food safe to eat and proper food handling. There are four steps to Food Safety, including Clean, Separate, Cook, and Chill.
Let’s Eat Healthy
Let’s Eat Healthy is a website out of California that has many resources for families, individuals and organizations. They promote basic, healthy eating that has messages you can count on.
Visualizing Portion Sizes
Being able to recognize the size of a food serving or a portion is a good skill. Here is a learning tool for training yourself on how big one serving of corn flakes cereal is, for example.
